Kitchen plans and progress at the flip house

Hello friends! Things are wrapping up on the upstairs master suite at the flip house and the two bedrooms on the bottom floor are this.close to being done. That means I’ve had the opportunity to dig into the kitchen remodel a bit. Wow, is that a huge undertaking!

Today I wanted to share with you the plans for that space and the progress so far.

Here’s a peek at what I started with:

The cabinets are in good shape. They’re just a bit outdated. I’m salvaging them and adding some molding to the doors and a few coats of fresh white paint to make them look like a million bucks. I also had the idea to turn the upper cabinet that blocked the kitchen from the dining and living areas into a lower peninsula.

Here’s what the space looked like a few days ago:

It always gets worse before it gets better, right? Matt got the upper cabinet secured to the floor and cut to the same height as the rest of the floor cabinets. He also added a toe kick – made out of 2x4s – so the cabinet would appear exactly like the others and the doors wouldn’t be too close to the floor.

Now this piece is ready for its backing and a countertop (coming soon). I’m adding about 10 extra inches of countertop, creating a bar overhang where I can tuck in a few stools. I can’t wait to see how this thrifty salvaged piece turns out!

Here are a few pictures of things I’m incorporating into this kitchen remodel:

My budget for this kitchen renovation is $1,300 and I am going to try really hard to keep from going over budget on this. I’ll let you know the exact dollar figure when it all shakes down.

Are you as excited as I am to see how everything turns out? 🙂

Susan, I am interested in the cupboard door update; what dimension lumber did you use for the outer trim and are those corners mitered or square? Its all looking very good. I bought a 1950’s house and took down one of those hanging out in space cabinets over an island. I used it along the wall since there was the island already with lowercupboards.

I’ll be sharing more details about that project soon, with pictures. I’m using thin lattice trim pieces squared, not mitered. You can get 12′ of this type of lattice at Home Depot. Again, more deets coming soon with pics, so you can see exactly what I’m talking about. 🙂

Great idea of using the cabinet for an island! $1300 is not a lot of money in the kitchen so I am excited to see your updates.
