Video: How to build shelves when wall corners are out of square

Hey there lovelies! I hope you’re ready to kick back and enjoy your weekend. I know I am now that most of the hubs’ closet re-do is, well, re-done. If you haven’t been keeping up with the progress, check out all the deets herehere and here.

Today, I want to share with you a tip from the pros on how to build closet shelves to fit perfectly without any gaps between the shelves and the walls. As many of you DIYers are probably aware, rarely – if ever – are wall corners perfectly square. And that can present a challenge when building shelves and also when cutting decorative molding. Fortunately, I convinced my carpenter dad to come back and film another video with me, showing his trick for dealing with out-of-square walls and cutting shelves to size. Check it out:

I hope this helps you the next time you embark on a shelf-building excursion. I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll be able to show you the final closet reveal next week. Enjoy your weekend.

Thank you (and thank your dad) for this tip. I am in the process of learning how to build some shelves for my bathroom using a similar approach and this helped me figure out how to get the dimensions to meet the not-so-square corners I also have.

I felt the tutorial was unclear as to whether he untaped one side and retaped the other,or continuse to work on the same side of wood. Wish my dad were a carpenter!
