Organizing for $1: Under-the-sink solutions

Progress on the master bathroom “kick in the pants” project continues to move along. So far, I’ve created the driftwood finish on the mirror frame and the hubs has wired up new, white switches and GFCI outlets. This week, we’ll be installing more of these goodies:

In the meantime, I wanted to share a thrifty organizing solution I found for beneath the bathroom sinks in the master bathroom.

In addition to getting a paint and fixture makeover, our master bathroom was badly in need of some good organizing, too.

Here’s a peek under the sink “before:”

Under-sink-before

I found a few bins at the Dollar Tree for, you guessed it, $1 apiece. I added chalkboard tags from Target and labeled the tags using my chalkboard markers.

Now the stuff under the sink is much easier to locate and keep neat.

I added a Command™ hook on the side of the cabinet, taking advantage of the vertical space to store my blow dryer.

Over the years, I’ve discovered I don’t have to spend a lot of money to create functional, cute organizing solutions.

Special thanks again to Duluth Trading Co., my favorite DIY-friendly clothing company, which is helping to make this master bathroom makeover possible.

  1. Looking good, Susan! I just bought two small storage bins to corral all the loose sunscreens and medicine bottles that we have in our cabinet. Amazing how such a small change can create such a visible difference!

It was long overdue, Robin. What I really need to organize now is the garage. But the thought of tackling that project makes me want to curl up in the fetal position and whisper, “Make the voices stop.” 😉

Would have never thought about hanging my blow dryer with Command hooks, yep another thing now off the base of the cabinet. Thanks. By the way great job on your cabinet clean up. Will start mine eventually. lol

Thanks, Marianne. The whole process took about 2 hours or so. Before, I probably spent more time than that HUNTING for all the stuff that was just tossed in there. I’m definitely enjoying knowing where everything is now. 😉

I like this idea – been needing to organize under those sinks and now I believe I can tackle them 🙂

One thing I did with my blow dryer was purchased one of those type of blow dryers like hotels have that mount on the wall. It has worked for over 27 years and still running strong. I only use it now and then when necessary, but it still works, and looks great mounted on the wall, directly into a electrical socket that was put on the wall just above the bathroom counter. Actually, I have one in both of my bathrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs. It was the best thing I ever did with a blow dryer. Great job with the ideas!

Oh that is so cool, Donna. I’ve got to get my hands on one of those someday. I’m a big fan of the blow dryers with retractable cords, so that is what I have right now. When that craps out, I’ll def look into a wall mount.

I have the same problem in my bathroom. Thanks for all the ideas.
