New red front door at the flip house

Hello friends! I am currently in the final push at the flip house, which means I’m putting in some long hours trying to get a lot of stuff knocked out quickly. Things are changing fast around here and it’s exciting, yet exhausting! And there is still much to do. But I love taking time out to share the progress with you.

Today I wanted to share my absolute favorite transformation at this house so far – the red front door. It came out even better than I imagined in my head and I am absolutely thrilled with the result.

Let’s take a look at the before of the front entrance, shall we?

And without the storm door …

I picked up a white-primed, Craftsman-style steel door off the shelf at Lowe’s for about $220 to replace the inefficient and not-very-safe old door. I chose a door and jam combination to keep the installation as simple as possible. Buying a door off the shelf is typically about half the price of special ordering one.

Because of the cold outdoor temps around here, it was important for me to paint the door inside prior to installation.

I chose Modern Masters® Front Door Paint in Sophisticated – a rich, deep red. This paint’s claim to fame is that it never fades.

When painting doors, I always start with the recessed area of the panels, then work my way out from there.

Here’s what one coat of the Sophisticated color looks like:

I ended up applying three coats total to get the uniform, rich color I was going for.

Removing the old front door and securing the new jam in place was a tricky job. Thank heavens I had my amazing husband and dad there to help me with that portion of the project!

I absolutely love this Sophisticated color!

Later this week, I’ll be adding some 50s-style “jewelry” to the front door, sharing details about the hardware, and giving you a full tour of all the accessories I’ve added to the front porch.

Finally, I wanted to share that, while I was taking these photos of the door today, a neighbor from across the street commented on how beautiful this home is becoming and how much he loved the view out his window now. Made my day! 🙂

Special thanks to Modern Masters for providing, at my request, the front door paint used on my door. As always, all opinions and projects are 100-percent mine.
