Simple summer tablescape

Decorating my dining room table for each season is something I truly enjoy. My latest  tablescape is a tribute to the light, bright, breezy feel of summertime.

A queen-sized white matelasse coverlet serves as the tablecloth.

The white dishes are an eBay score. They are part of a set from American Atelier called Bianca Leaf – round. Lurve.

The centerpiece consists of stuff I gathered from around the house. Some apple green candlesticks, a cockleshell, a strand of Christmas tree garland, a white pitcher with hydrangea blossoms, a ceramic starfish and, voila.

Here in Pennsylvania, we are blessed to enjoy four distinct seasons. I think that allows us to really savor each one because we know it isn’t going to last very long!

Just as the weather around us is ever-changing, so, it seems, are our lives.

Ecclesiastes 3 tells us that there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: A time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to harvest, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace …

What “season” are you experiencing right now in your life? Are you in a time of harvest (like we are here in Pennsylvania), reaping the benefits of work you’ve done and prayers you’ve prayed? Or are you perhaps in a season of growth, patiently tending your soil with the faith and expectation that, someday, you’ll reap a harvest if you do not grow weary?
