I’ve always loved the DYI lifestyle as it enables me to express my creativity and taste while saving money. Actually, it’s not even saving money as I would never be able to afford the look I want otherwise. It also gives a great sense of accomplishment to do it oneself, and a sense of empowerment to know difficult projects can be finished or at least attempted.

GREAT podcast! I’m so impressed with the interview and very proud of you and Cristin.

Thanks for asking this question! For me, I love being able to create something from almost nothing. I appreciate feeling some degree of self-sufficiency and feeling less bound to consumerism. And by using my hands and brains, I feel a greater connection with my amazing grandmothers who literally homesteaded. As with many things, time and energy are my most limiting factors.

I like to save money by reusing and recycling because it affords me the opportunity to be creative. Also, I take pride in maximizing my resources. When I save, I can use that money toward something that I have to pay, such as health or foods items that I cannot prepare from scratch. That is why I am always looking at free websites where the posters share their successes.

By examining what I do and making it better for me and my husband, I was able to retire early. Now I do what I like to do when I like to do it. It is a never ending journay; but, oh, so satisfying.
