DIY magazine holders

Happy Tuesday, peeps! Today I want to show you the cheap-o DIY magazine holders I created.

This project is so simple. You start with large cardboard cereal boxes – or really any cardboard boxes that fit your desired length and width specs. Then you cut them into a shape that looks like this:

I covered my cardboard boxes with $5 worth of scrapbook paper using a paintbrush and Mod Podge (matte finish) all-in-one glue and sealer. To avoid bubbling and lifting along the papers’ edges, I was very generous with the Mod Podge.

About an hour later, I had two boxes finished!

I used some of the scrapbook paper to cover a $2 Walmart pencil holder, too.

I actually had enough cardboard and paper to make a third magazine holder, but I had to stop mid-craft project and help Tiny make a sock puppet.

I want to eventually move my DIY magazine holders to this office closet:

Isn’t it gorgeous? Well, I plan to paint and add shelving to this space, so it can (beautifully) hold our wireless printer, office supplies, cords (for the love of Pete, why are there so many cords?) and all the other junk necessities of our office/guest room/music room. Needless to say, I have my work cut out for me. Stay tuned for progress on that.

Enjoy your Tuesday!

I’m off to get that cereal box I just put in the recycling bin. I’d much rather use it as a magazine holder. Thanks for inspiring.

  5. Lovely holders, Susan. I’ve been wracking my brain for boxes to use — cereal, of course! Thanks for the great tips. I can’t wait to get some pretty paper.
