Hi! I’m Susan and I’m addicted to auctions, yard sales and repo homes. I love decorating, organizing and remodeling on a dime, and I especially love sharing my projects and strategies with my readers. You’ll often find me transforming my “treasures” into up-to-date, functional décor.
I’m also a Jesus follower who’s been blessed beyond measure with the coolest family and friends around! I strive to pour my heart and soul into making our home happy, healthy, gorgeous and peaceful. I am insanely grateful for this beautiful life and my heart’s desire is to use this blog to bless you, too!
As creator of Living Rich on Less, I believe that, with a little imagination and a lot of optimism, anyone can create a lovely home without spending a fortune. However, this website is not simply about making our dollars stretch farther. Rather, it centers around my quest to edit my life so I have room for the things I love and, more importantly, the people I love. At times, this proves a challenging quest, as I do adore pretty things. But as Robert Louis Stevenson once wrote,
“The best things are the nearest: Breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes, flowers at your feet, duties at your hand, the path of God just before you. Then do not grasp at the stars, but do life’s plain, common work as it comes, certain that daily duties and daily bread are the sweetest things in life.”
I won’t be the first to say I’m far from perfect – to see just how far, check out this post. And sometimes my projects are epic fails. But my goal is always to help others learn something new in the process.
As far as professional credentials, my work has been featured in more than 20 different media outlets and I’ve launched my own podcast and e-books. My training includes a master’s degree in psychology and counseling, a bachelor’s degree in journalism, and an associate degree in public affairs. For more than two decades, I’ve enjoyed rewarding work as a writer/photographer/graphic designer, realtor, real estate investor and marketing director! Much of that time has been spent in the military, where I still serve part-time as a public affairs officer, helping to share amazing stories about inspiring people.
My creative gene comes primarily from my dad, an extraordinary home remodeler who can build something great out of anything! I owe my homemaking abilities to my sweet mom, a tremendous cook and seamstress, who passed away in 2019 from cancer. My two crazy sisters keep me from taking life too seriously. And the three loves of my life – the hubs, Tiny and our little guy – are the fuel that keeps this grocery getter movin’.
I hope you’ll join me on this journey to live rich on less …
