What hats do you wear?

This past weekend was a flurry of activity. It began Thursday evening when the hubs and I shot a video of the master bathroom faucet installation. If you think installing a faucet is hard, try filming and photographing it at the same time. This was not my finest hour (or three), although I hope you can’t tell that in the video. 😉

After Thursday’s late night insanity (thank you, hubs), my Friday started bright and early with a 4 a.m. wakeup to get on the road to Air National Guard duty. While there, I toured an aircraft and interviewed members of Great Britain’s Royal Air Force.

After work, I raced to my daughter’s school, quickly changing out of my military uniform in the church bathroom and getting seated just in time for her performance in the spring program. Whew!

Saturday our family was blessed to attend the wedding of some very dear friends, dancing and celebrating with them into the evening hours.

Sunday started with another 4 a.m. wakeup. It was back on the road to Guard duty for my annual physical fitness test and to put together a story and photos from Friday’s event.

Sunday evening, I headed home to spend the remaining hours of the weekend working on a video, photos and copy for a blog post.

Sometimes it feels like I wear a lot of hats!

Shopping-trip

Our littles during a shopping trip last year

I share this story not to lament my busy schedule. I truly live a blessed, extraordinary life with very few regrets. Rather, I share it because I know that most of you can relate to the numerous, shifting hats we wear and roles we play on any given week.

Interestingly, although it is often easy for others to see how much we contribute to our families and communities, personally we often beat ourselves up for not doing more.

I frequently tell my husband I feel like I’m “a day late and dollar short” at the end of each day. Instead of focusing on all the activities I’ve accomplished, I feel tormented by all the items on my to-do list that have gone unchecked.

So today, I want to stop this insanity and just express thanks for all the opportunities I’ve had and all the experiences I’ve been privileged to be a part of. And, more importantly, I want to celebrate all the different roles you play and all the unique activities you’ve been doing.

Please leave me a comment and share some of the hats you’ve worn and some of the experiences you’ve had recently that you’re proud of. I want to get to know you better and commend all the amazing ways you make a difference in the people around you.

HMM..good call sis I feel the same way all too much and way too often, let’s see I’ll commend myself for being a Stepmom, I’m very blessed to have those kiddos as part of my life, they have made me become a better person in so many ways through the last 3 years. Next a newlywed of 2 years, can I just say that I LOVE marriage, sure its got its rough moments (and thank you sis for listening to me through them at times lol) but it allows me to realize so much about myself that I need to work on. Lastly I’ll go with a church member of the coolest church I’ve ever been to, here I’ve been able to listen to others and built new relationships, grow spiritually, push myself down new paths God has led me to & rely on others for spiritual and emotional support.

My current hats: High School Counselor (senior awards and graduation are a big part of my end-o-the-year responsibilities), Caregiver (to my 83 year old momma – she is God’s gift to me), Wifey to my amazing husband of six years, Contract negotiator (recently found out our HVAC is ka-putz, so we’re getting quotes currently) Church secretary. Five. That’s enough. :0)

You do wear a lot of hats, Diana. That’s incredible. Best wishes with all of your end-of-year school preparations and with your HVAC project. And what a huge responsibility – and blessing – to care for your mom. Thanks for the feedback. You rock!

*sigh* This would not be a good time for me to write this all down. You may never hear from me again, as I will have sold all my belongings and moved to a shack on a beach. 😉 xo
