Summer mantel
Happy Monday! I finally switched up my fireplace mantel décor over the weekend. Until yesterday, we were still staring at lanterns filled with Easter eggs (not real eggs, thank goodness).
The hubster is particularly tickled with my new summer mantel-scape because it didn’t cost a dime. I just used stuff I already had on hand.
I love my tobacco basket so much that I display it almost year-round! It was a very good score on eBay last year. It reminds me of the time our family spent living in the South. So in addition to being stylish, it offers nostalgic value, too.
On the left side of the mantel, I filled my lanterns with a Walmart candle, collected seashells and starfish I bought last year on clearance at Boscov’s Department Store.
The right side has more starfish, a yard sale basket filled with clearance silk flowers, and a lantern I got for free with Pottery Barn rewards points.
Overall, I’m pleased with the look. It exudes my style … simple and understated with a natural vibe inspired by the outdoors.
Have you done any summer decorating yet?
I’m linking this up to The Lettered Cottage.
Love this, the tobacco basket is fabulous! It’s all put together beautifully. Everything works together perfectly.
Glad you like it, Karen!
The tobacco basket adds great texture and height to your mantel. I love that it is sentimental. I really like all of your seashells and starfish. Lanterns are my favorite….so charming. Great looking mantel…with all the elements that I love too.
Beautiful display Susan! I LOVE your tobacco basket! Always great when we can put together a new display with things we already have on hand! Hope your summer is going well!!
Thanks, Tonya. Can’t wait to catch up with you at Haven.
Love your mantel! Your style is so simple and yet sophistocated. Hope you have a wonderful time at Haven. 🙂
Hi Susan!!!! It was so sweet to meet you at Haven. I only wish we could have spent more time chatting. Hope to see you again soon. I have a lot of catching up to do on your awesome blog!
It was so great to meet you too! I’m crossing my fingers for a Haven 2013.
..beautiful…thank you
…I love your home….
I love it!! I too love lanterns. I have a lot of sea shells that me and the hubster collected over a summer vacation at Sanibel Island, Fla. They are gorgeous. I didn’t have to buy them, they came right from ocean, how neat it that? I love the tobacco basket. I love finding treasures that are so unique and have a memory attached. You are helping me and a lot of ladies out here putting together simple methods of decorating for pennies. We don’t have to break the bank and it looks just like out of the catalog, Thanks for your time and effort for all of us:)
Aww. You’re sweet. Free seashells are the coolest summer decorating pieces. I have them all over the place.
