Thrifty kitchen herb garden

Happy Tuesday, peeps. I have a cool, thrifty kitchen project to show you today.

Anyone who knows me well knows that my morning drink of choice is hot tea rather than coffee. I enjoy trying lots of different varieties of teas.

Awhile back, I tried these peach and ice-wine flavors. After I drank up all the tea, I was left with these cute, wooden boxes that I didn’t have the heart to throw away. So I decided to re-purpose them. I glued the two boxes together using Liquid Nails.

Then I drilled a few holes in the bottom of the boxes to allow for water drainage.

Next, I traced onto a piece of leftover cork board and cut out a piece to fit the bottom of the boxes. It will act as a sponge to soak up any excess water. (Oh, can I just take a moment to give a shout out to all you fellow lefties out there? Holla!)

Finally, I packed the boxes full of my favorite kitchen herbs: cilantro, parsley and basil. Yum!

Voila! I’ve got a kitchen herb garden, done on the cheap. Now let’s see if I can keep these plants alive. I don’t have the greatest history with greenery. The folks at my office won’t even let me look at or breathe on their plants for fear that I’ll kill them! But I am determined to try again. I love the idea of having something green in my kitchen during this cold, dreary time of year.

I hope I’ve inspired you to use your noggin’ and re-purpose something you’ve got lying around the house. Ciao for now!

What a great use of those boxes! I would have had a hard time pitching them because they are so pretty.

This is so cute! I’m not a tea drinker…I love my coffee…but I just may have to give tea a chance…those containers are so cute on your kitchen window! I’m a new follower…please stop by for a visit…and if you like what you see you can follow me back! That would make my day!
