Fall kitchen decor
I finally got around to decorating the kitchen for fall. Actually, I should say I finally got the kitchen clean enough for 10 whole minutes to photograph the fall decor in it.
I typically like to display small groupings of similar objects above my cabinets. I find that allowing open space between these vignettes gives a more cohesive look than covering every square inch with individual items. In graphic design, they call this technique “giving the eye somewhere to rest” … or something along those lines.
This year I added some indoor/outdoor rugs I got on sale from Ballard Designs. They are still 15 percent off until Oct. 22, I believe.
I love indoor/outdoor rugs in the kitchen because I can use my Swiffer SweeperVac on top of them and it is also OK for them to get wet. One thing I will mention about these particular rugs … you’ll want to use double-sided carpet/rug tape under them because they will scoot around if you don’t. I get my rug tape from Walmart (in the painter’s and duct tape section).
Here’s another vignette I created on top of the counter.
And of course I updated my drink station with my fall favorites: caramel apple cider and café mocha.
I hung up my fall, one-hour napkin curtains.
And added a few more touches around the room.
Have you finished decorating your kitchen for fall? Does it ever stay clean enough for you to enjoy it? If so, what’s your secret? 😉
Lol — I have the same dilemma… have to wait until everyone’s out of the house for an afternoon to do this! Love your fall touches, Susan!

Thank you for your helpful emails, they give me inspiration. Since I’m currently at home from the government shutdown, I have used the time to get things done around the house. I cleaned off all of my kitchen counters and put things back sparingly which made a big difference and shows off my beautiful granite.
The way you did the top of the cabinets are very pretty. Mine probably looks too cluttered so now I thinking of redoing like yours!!
Thanks for the great ideas!
Thanks for the kind words, Billie. I’m glad I could be helpful in some way.
2nd week home from the hospital and haven’t had the energy or ability to decorate for fall. So decided I would just enjoy the ideas of others. Simply Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Blessings, Pam
Hope you are back to great health soon!
Hi there:
Beautiful kitchen. Where did you get the napkins at?
The napkins for the napkin curtains? I got those from a little country store near where I live called Peachey’s. They were on clearance for $1.50 apiece.
I can spend two hours cleaning my kitchen, and as soon as I finish, someone comes in to make something to eat. Really? LOL I want to say, just go hungry! I recently pinned a picture of a note a mother left on her counter. It said I spent 1.5 hours cleaning this kitchen. If you mess it up, I will cut you. love, mom. I totally relate to that!
Oh my. I can totally relate, too. If I thought too hard about how much time I spend cleaning my kitchen on a regular basis and how quickly it gets messed up again, I’d probably go insane. I guess I’m not the only one with this exasperating problem. 😉
My kitchen never stays clean enough to enjoy. I am either crafting something or baking something….I sometimes wished I didn’t do either but then I don’t know what I’d do….lol
I actually made my entire family eat dinner outside on the patio for a whole month this summer because I was so sick of cleaning the kitchen floor and table. 🙂
I much prefer to see a kitchen decorated as you have done. I love the groupings you put together.
No I haven’t decorated for fall yet, I have things that need to be completed, I restore furniture, and moved out so I can give everything a good cleaning and make the home feel more like fall.
Everything looks soooo pretty! I haven’t done one thing…guess I will just enjoy what everyone else does. 🙂
