(Video) Is a clutter-free, DIY lifestyle worth the effort?

Today I want to share with you a video interview that Sharon at Mrs. Hines’ Class hosted with myself and author/fellow DIYer Cristin Frank.

In this 45-minute video, Sharon, Cristin (aka the Reduction Rebel) and I talk about how we keep our homes and lives clutter-free and how embracing the DIY lifestyle has impacted our families. I share my strategy for avoiding procrastination, my favorite go-to spots for thrifty loot, and my feelings about leaving the corporate world (and a nice paycheck) to stay at home with my kids. The uber-talented and resourceful Cristin talks about how her family has taken drastic measures to simplify, declutter, and reduce their stress, debt and waste. Trust me; you don’t want to miss her words of wisdom.

This is my first experience with a Google+ Hangout on Air, so hopefully you can overlook the fact that I need to smile more, my eye shadow is seriously out of control, and the lip-smacking is deafening. 😉

Have you embraced a clutter-free, DIY lifestyle? What changes have made the biggest impact on you and your family?

Hi Susan, I Love your blog, all your thrifty ideas and your style. I really enjoyed the video , I thought you did great ! I was at a friends house and she mentioned how her patio furniture was getting rusty and how she didn’t like it anymore. Well, You and your fabulous table makeover popped into my head! I thought I know exactly how to fix that. So now thats how I think …can this be fixed or can I make it for Less . Thanks for all the creative ideas you share with us out here in blog land .
    God Bless ,

Great discussion! Thanks for sharing your lifestyle with us. It’s good to hear “behind the scenes” stuff like what you’ve had to sacrifice and how hard you have to work at it all. 🙂

Hi Susan, great job! I encourage you to do more of these. Google will eventually become as familiar as your power tools. I appreciate everything you said and how you said it. You came prepared and also spoke off the cuff. In both you came across as genuine and heartfelt. Thanks again and I look forward to the podcast you mentioned.
