Ideas for a blue and gray boy’s bedroom

I’m heartbroken over the fact that our little guy is growing up. I’ve told both of our children countless times that they aren’t permitted to grow any more, but they continue to ignore me.

So what was once a nursery for our precious baby boy now needs to become a little boy’s room. Sniff.

That means I’m on the hunt for some great ideas to transform his space! Today, I thought I’d share some of the inspiration I’ve come across and how I’m planning to incorporate it into the design of our growing boy’s “new” room.

I absolutely adore this headboard and I think I could recreate it – and the sconce light – pretty inexpensively. Plus the train shelf is cute and functional!

I love this neat idea for an easy – and uber-cool – industrial-style hamper.

I love the navy accent wall, blue accessories and the airplane wall art.

The locker-style storage in this room – brilliant! I actually have two old storage lockers in our garden shed that I could transform into something similar, using metallic paint I already have on hand. Hmmmm.

I’m digging the use of grays and blues – and the airplane accents – in this Pottery Barn space. I’m definitely thinking about a light gray paint for the walls.

Beautiful artwork! And I’m always a sucker for a fabulous blue plaid. Cute side table, too.

Finally, I am chomping at the bit to transform an old dresser we rescued from my friend’s basement (thank you, Heather and Boomer) into a navy blue piece similar to the one above. Here’s what I’ll be starting with:

I’m excited to get to work on this bedroom. But first, I think we’ll try to wrap up some projects outside to make sure they don’t fall through the cracks before the weather turns cold. Another thing I sometimes wish would last forever … summertime!

You have a lot of good ideas. I’m looking forward to what you come up with. This is kind of bittersweet isn’t it?m it’s amazing to me how fast they grow. It’s like you look away and boom…they are not babies or toddlers any more. Good luck.

Those are great ideas and sources, and some of them can work for an adult guy’s bedroom, study, or den too.

I love the prints of the streamlined locomotives. As a big train buff, I have been looking for images like those. I have seen train shelves in some restaurants, but I had never thought of putting one in a bedroom. That’s a excellent way to get some of my model trains out of storage and on display (and running) without all of the time and space needed for a layout. Plus, my nephews would love seeing their uncle’s trains in operation yet safely out of reach of little fingers that don’t quite know all of the dangers of electricity.

Yes, little ones grow so quickly. My two nephews are now 6 and 2. Cherish these times while you can, and good luck with your project.
