Junk turned garden art

The folks who lived in our house before us had this piece of metal art hanging above the half wall that separated the living and dining areas:

It didn’t really fit in with my decor, and then we removed the half wall entirely when we installed the hickory flooring. So down to the basement it went.

Well, the other day I was outside trying to come up with no-cost ideas for landscape art and I remembered this forgotten metal piece. So I headed back down to the basement to rescue it.

I took the wire off the back of the art and cut the wire into two equal pieces.

Then I used the two wire pieces to attach the art to a wrought iron garden flag stand I found stuffed in the back of our shed.

I had to reinforce it with a handful of fishing line at the base to keep it from leaning. I used fishing line for its strength and because it looks virtually invisible from a distance.

Done! Now I have an unexpected piece of art dressing up the front yard landscaping a bit.

What I love most is that this project cost me nothing. Zero. Zilch. And it was quick and easy. Can’t beat that combo, right?

Have you used any leftover “junk” as garden art? If so, I’d love for you to share your ideas. I’m on the lookout for more outdoor inspiration.

    Very nice!
I’m surprised you didn’t spray it gold or do some hand painting on it. Maybe a spray of protectant clear gloss of some kind will protect it from rusting in the elements too. Just thinking ahead, cause weather will rust this in months, but yet, it is a great idea.

I like it and if it rusts, the better! Happy Summer!!
