2015 Word of the Year – What’s yours?

A few years ago, I began choosing a Word of the Year to guide and shape my actions for that particular set of 12 months. In 2012, it was “available.” In 2013, it was “build.” And in 2014, it was “push.”

These simple words have proven to be absolutely life-changing for me. It seems there’s something almost supernatural about speaking out loud and writing down our intentions that sets the wheels in motion to make great things happen.

That’s part of the reason I am such a fan of Michael Hyatt’s “Best Year Ever” course. I completed the course last year and met eight out of the 10 goals I set for myself in 2014. These were not rinky-dink goals, either. They were big, hairy goals, like tripling my speaking engagements, doubling my income and writing a book!

Needless to say, I’m keeping the Word of the Year tradition alive (and also going through Michael’s course again). I’m convinced that 2015 will be my best year ever!

After much thought, I’ve decided on the word:

SEEInstead of a judgmental, critical eye, this year I will:

  • See potential rather than problems
  • See progress rather than imperfection
  • See God’s provision rather than my own lack
  • See people with eyes like God’s, full of love, grace and compassion
  • See possibilities instead of past failures
  • See the beauty in everyday moments
  • See the hand of God working all around me

This is my desire for 2015. Now, what is your Word of the Year? I’d love for you to tell me by leaving a comment so we can encourage each other.

Cheers to 2015: Our best year ever!

That’s a great word and I love the possibilities..
When I told friends about the word for a year, he popped out with the word move ( we are waiting for them to move to the Island- totally surprised himself) and hers was Speak Up (to give herself permission to say what she wants and needs)
So far I have the word Fun and maybe Listen.

I received your email this evening and always believe that things happen for a reason. I needed a pick me up and this was it. I chose the word “Imagine”. For many reasons this word will open a path to many roads for my future. I remember reading your blog last year and thinking what a great idea one word can do to enhance your life in a year. I will be using this word as a daily affirmation to remind myself of the endless possibilities that life has to offer. Thank you for encouraging me.

What a great word, Dorene! I’ll be praying that you “imagine” the endless, amazing possibilities that will be yours in 2015. 🙂

  3. Mine is “intention.” Because I need more of it. 🙂 In every area of my life.

I LOVE this word, Kimm. It goes along with one of my other favorites, “essential.” We can do anything we want but we can’t do everything we want. I need to remind myself of this truth daily, prioritizing and living intentionally. I’m praying for all the best for you in 2015. 🙂

    Hi Susan,

I just came across your message and absolutely love it. What a great idea. An excellent way to kick off the year. I have decided to make my word for the year: is “DO” Do something everyday to improve my home life, professional life and spiritual life. 1). DO-Pray daily to God and Thank him for all my blessings, 2). DO-Pick up around the house daily, so I won’t be so stressed on the weekend!!! You get the picture. I will take some time to work on this list and fine tune it later. But I sincerely thank you for a wonderful idea. Feel free to offer suggestions. and Happy New Year to you….Signed a new fan!

What a great word, Shirley. I’ll be thinking of your word every time I want to sleep in that extra half hour. I’ve got to get my butt out of bed and “Do” what I need to that day. Also, I love that you mentioned about taking care of daily tasks so you aren’t stressed on the weekends. I have a major problem procrastinating and then my weekends really aren’t the rejuvenating time off they are supposed to be. I’m praying for an amazing 2015 for you, full of “DOs.” 🙂

I began choosing a word for each year beginning in 2013. You are so right! Choosing a word seems to focus my attention and actions. It is truly amazing. In 2013 my word was ‘Intentional’ and in 2014, my word was ‘Obedience’ (and I really didn’t want to choose that particular word…I just knew it was the right one.) My actions truly began to change. This year, my word is ‘Healthy.’ Can’t wait to see the changes! Thank you for your encouragement…LOVE your down-to-earth, ‘can-do’ blog!

    • Susan says:

Great word, Paulette. We could all certainly use a lot more “Healthy” in our lives. Reducing our family’s sugar and chemical intake is a major goal for me this year. I’m praying all the best for you in 2015, your healthiest year ever. 🙂

I choose my word for 2015 to be “praise”. I think that if I have an attitude of praise every day, it will reflect in my attitude, stress in life, the ups and downs of each day, and help with relationships, work ethic, marriage, and weight loss. I need to have that moment of “Being still and knowing that He is God” every day. (Psalm 46:10)

  8. Eileen Phillips says:

Thank you for this! I’m going to give it a try, adopting your word for the year and your list of what you are wanting to see. I want to see positive rather than negative, progress rather than failure and, in so doing, become someone who’s outlook is positive

    gratitude again this year

My word is completion. I have a list of projects that I’ve been meaning to do and this is the year to see them through or let them go.

  11. Thanks for the validation, Susan. I had done this a couple of years ago at a New Years gathering and decided to do it every year after. Since I conduct spiritual classes I have led my class participants in this exercise as well. I like the way you explain its value. This has been a remarkably accurate way for Spirit to let me know what my year was going to be like. Blessings!

  12. Candace Thayer says:

Last year, my words were “Be Brave”. It was totally amazing how many times I was called upon to use those words…2 life saving surgeries in 2 months. This year, my words are “Find It”. Not sure what “It” is, but when I find it, I’m going to smile the heck out of it!

  13. Love this idea. Am linking back to your blog on an upcoming post. Wanted you to know. God bless.
