Follow this flip: Bathroom demo plus 2 tools I can’t live without

I have officially crossed over into “weirdo” territory. I am probably the most excited person you’ll meet who’s actually happy about tearing a room apart.

The bathroom demolition at the white house is officially done, which means I can now start the process of putting that room back together. The vision in my head of this tiny bathroom is gorgeous, people. The road to get there? Not so pretty. 😉 I’ve filled up four contractor trash bags full of debris from this room.

Let’s go way back to the before:

Bathroom before sink

First, I chipped off all that strange, dirty, plastic-y tile. #shudder

Bathroom-demo-1Then I demolished everything but the tub (toilet will go soon). Thank goodness, my dad was able to help me detach the shower and sink plumbing.

This is where we are as of this afternoon:

I’m hoping by the end of next week, the insulation, wiring, plumbing and maybe even drywall will be installed. Stay tuned!

In the meantime, I wanted to share two tiny tools that have become absolutely vital to me on a daily basis.

Fav-tools

On the left is a pair of vice grips.* On the right is the Purdy® painter’s tool. I can’t even list all the situations I’ve encountered where these tools have come in handy. There are too many to count! Trust me when I say you need both of these in your toolbox.

What is your favorite tool in your toolbox?

and thanks for the tools reference, very helpful

Thanks so much, Doreen. I don’t feel so brave sometimes. I may have broken down into tears a few times last week during demolition. But I’m a survivor. 😉 Thanks again for the kind words.

It looks like the bathroom was an add on at one time. You certainly have it cleaned out good, ready for all new fixtures, can’t wait to see it all finished, shinny, bright and new.

Wow you have worked hard! Can’t wait to see what you do for this bathroom!! Are you planning on doing the new plumbing & wiring yourself?

    • Susan says:

Aw. Thanks so much, Patricia. Yes, I’m doing all the plumbing and wiring myself. Thankfully, my dad has stopped by the past few days to help me when/where I get stuck. I have been learning a TON. This is hard work. We finished wiring everything up today – the ceiling fan/light, a new outlet by the vanity, and two switches for the light/fan. Can you believe this bathroom had absolutely zero outlets before? Aargh! 🙂

Oh im wanting to redo a bath about the size of your, can you give me a ballpark figure one the cost.. Love your blog.

    • Susan says:

Sure, Alma. I have budgeted $1,200 for a total remodel of this small bathroom and that includes replacing pretty much everything but the ceiling and the bathtub (insulation, wiring, drywall, vanity, lights, shower surround, faucets, paint, flooring). I’ve been very conservative with my choices of finishes and I believe I’m going to come in slightly under budget at about $1,000 total. I’ve done all the work myself, so no labor costs have been incurred. Best wishes on your project and thanks so much for the kind words.
