The look for less: ‘Once Upon a Time’ knockoff decor

I recently mentioned I have a bit of an obsession with the TV show “Once Upon a Time.” (Yes I realize I’m late to the party.) I’m particularly crushing on Regina’s office decor. Her style is so my style. Evil queen or not, this lady knows how to decorate.

I decided to infuse a little “Once Upon a Time” into my dining room a few weeks ago by adding some “Enchanted Forest” touches. You can see them all here.

One of the items I was missing and really wanted to get my hands on was Regina’s apple bowl.

The cheapest match I could find online was $100. Then I came across this silver beauty at HomeGoods for $25:

One trick I like to use when I’m spray-painting a piece is to hang it from my clothesline using plastic cable ties. This gives me easy access to all sides at once and helps me get even coverage.

Here’s the finished bowl:

Love the bowl but more excited about your ingenious idea to hang things from the clothes line to paint. Never thought of that ~how easy to get to it all. Thanks for that tip. Blessings (keep’emcoming)

Love the Once Upon a Time series but haven’t watched Season 2 (no cable). Caught a bit on Hulu – is it still a good show?

I think your decision to paint the bowl white is a good one. It looks AWESOME!!! Will have to see if there is a HomeGoods in our town. Thanks for sharing!

  7. I’m a huge fan of Home Goods. Nice find!

Love the chandelier too. Hope you got the less expensive Pottery Barn version. I unfortunately spent thousands for the original Currey and Company one which I loved until I saw the one that only costs hundreds at Pottery Barn. Now I feel sick whenever I go in my dining room and thik about what I spent. Still love the look though.

Hi there, love what you did with the bowl! I’m hoping to imitate Regina’s office in a much smaller space (and on a much smaller budget). I’ve been looking for small what writing desks online, but am wondering if you know what style her desk is- so I would at least know what to type in my search engine. If you know this style or have seen something like it, please let me know. It would really help my search. Thanks.

Ooh, I love that desk! I’m not sure I could accurately pin down the style, but if I had to take a crack at it, I would definitely call it European-inspired, maybe even uniquely French. You can find this type of furniture in a Ballard Designs catalog. If I was trying to find something like it, I might try Googling distressed pedestal tables or desks to see what comes up. Good luck with your search.

What is the color paint on her livingroom and hallway walls?
